Itsy Bitsy comes home
A friend at
work told me about some kittens she was trying to place in homes. Her friend had two cats who,
between them, had 5 kittens. Then one of
the mothers died and the surviving mother took on all the kittens. At the beginning of June 2001, I went with
her to look at the two remaining kittens, one boy and one girl. I already knew I’d rather have a female
cat. They were both black but the female
was smaller than her littermate. They
were all outside (another reason my friend wanted to place them in homes as
soon as possible). It took a little
effort to catch her so I could take a closer look at her, and my impression was
that she was a shy, quiet kitten. I went
home and told Andrew about her – but he probably wasn’t listening to me (again)
when I said I would bring her home the next day.
I went back
the next day and it took us a little more effort to catch her this time – she
and her brother went and hid under a lawn mower – I mean, how does an animal
fit under a lawn mower?? Well, that’s
how tiny she was. Looking at her mother,
who was quite petite, I thought she would also grow up to be a petite cat. She again seemed like she would be a quiet
cat (like Eenie).
Boy was I
wrong on both counts!

Eenie does not like this a single bit! No, sirree, don’t like it one bit!! |
Fortunately, she
knew a litter box when she saw one (which was odd for a very young kitten
kept outdoors). After a few days,
she would hold it in as much as she could, until she was let out in the
morning – then she would head straight for the real (adult) litter box! |
She was so teeny,
I started calling her Itsy Bitsy. The
original “joke” when we first adopted Eenie was that
I’d get 4 cats and call them Eenie, Meenie, Mynie and
Look at that monkey face!
What
a character this kitteh
turned out to be!!
